Free to Wear Sunscreen

This is a project from a couple of years ago.

Through family, I found myself with a pile of 1950's postcards from around Europe. The images are classic tourist postcard and were all sent by a man called Harry who worked on the railways.  Back in those days, railway workers received free or subsidised rail travel and Harry used it to the full.  His writing style is raffish and engaging.

I took the postcards out into Manchester and asked the people I met if I could take their portraits.  As I went through the process, Baz Lurhmann's iconic track 'Everyone's Free to Wear Sunscreen' got caught in my head and I began looking for images that would fit the soundtrack - "excuse me - can I take your portrait holding this postcard, but only your knees?"

The result is the linked YouTube track here. :-)
